The MFMI is committed to the principle of rigorous and transparent evaluation for itself and its network members. The MFMI includes discussion and training about methods of evaluation in its workshops, information dissemination and communities of practice.
In 2007, the MFMI hired a team of independent, external experts to evaluate its track record in supporting MBA (masters of business administration) programs, to explore the extent to which the MFMI added value in:
- vesting new and existing managers with management and technical skills to develop microfinance institutions
- preparing visionary leaders for the future of microfinance
- educating a new generation of young entrepreneurs to combine practicality and social idealism in their careers
- capturing the interest of individuals whose eventual employment in commercial banks and government could bring large and retail banks, as well diverse institutions into the microfinance field.
A copy of the scope of work of the evaluation is available upon request, as will be the results when completed, in 2008.
